Mrs. Amber Gunn

Dear Students and Families,

Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Amber Gunn. I love being a Mildred Eagle! This is my 12th year inside the lower elementary classroom.  I am very excited to get this year up and going!

I currently live four blocks from the house where I was delivered! My husband and I have three sons, Rylan, Wesley and Dakota and two fur babies named Anna and Moon. I graduated from high school, Navarro College and Texas A&M University-Commerce.

We, kindergarten teachers and office staff, are asking for each student to bring in an extra change of clothes (shirt, bottoms, socks, and underwear/panties) as soon as possible. The extra clothes will go into their locker.

I will be sending a Homework Folder home nightly. Inside you will find: a monthly behavior chart, sight word lists and a reading log. More about each one below.

Monthly Behavior Charts: I will document how the day went for your child. Located on the right hand side of the chart you will find: a color coded key for the overall day. If there are any actions that warranted a consequence, I will document with a number in the given color. I want the students to be leaders and take responsibility for their own actions. Please ask them to explain why they received the letter that they received. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected].  I check my emails at least once in the evenings. Please initial the small box inside the calendar. This allows both, parent and teacher, the opportunity to document any quick messages regarding the day.

Sight Word Lists: please practice their sight words each night as this will begin to help them become better readers and writers leading to more success in becoming a lifelong learner. I have a list of ideas if needed on ways that you can make this a fun task at home!

Reading Log: this is a place where you can document your nightly reading practice. Each student will listen to someone read aloud to them for 20 minutes. This can be an audio book (online, MP3 player, CD/cassette, etc…) or a parent, grandparent, neighbor read aloud.

I will send all “Graded Work” and other important paperwork home in the Newsday Tuesday Folder. Please look through their work. If you have any questions, please send me the questions through the Remind app or by email as well as returning the assignment in question as soon as possible.

I have a class Remind that I will send various notices and quick memos out. Please join as soon as possible. Remind allows me to send out whole group, small group and individual messages. When you respond, I am the only one to see it. It’s similar to a text messaging service. Please see the attached directions page to set up the app.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gunn
